As a pilot, I have always felt privileged to fly over Nepal. It is where the earth rises up to meet heaven, it is a breathtakingly beautiful land carved by the hand of God. Flying over the Himalayas brings this mighty creation of nature into its proper perspective, and every flight is a pilgrimage.

For me in the cockpit, it is not just the spectacular beauty of the land that brings satisfaction, but also the challenge of flying over the most rugged terrain in the world.

And standing tall amidst all the Himalayan peaks, is Mt Everest. Many people have risked their lives climbing the world’s highest peak, others trek to its base. But an aerial sightseeing flight over Mt Everest is a way to get up close and personal with this lofty pyramid of ice and rock to see it from a perspective that a few people get.

I have been flying over the Himalayas over the past 15 years, and as an avid photographer have been taking pictures from the cockpit whenever I can. I would like to share some of them with you in this seventh edition of Everest From the Air.

No glossy pictures can ever convey the true three-dimensional beauty of my homeland. But I hope this book will be a fitting memento of your visit to Nepal, and I am glad to be able to share these pictures with you.

A warm welcome to Nepal.
