Nepal may be one of the poorest countries in the world, but when it comes to mountains there is no other that stands taller. Within its boundaries lie eight of the ten highest mountains in the world, including the greatest of them all-mount Everest.
Without doubt, Everest is the world’s most famous mountain. No other peak comes close to it either in its loftiness or rich history. It has attracted the attention of more geographers, mountaineers and writers than any other mountain. And ‘because it is there’ as George Mallory famously put it, Everest continues to be the greatest attraction for trekkers from all over the world.
Everest is a challenging mountain, kind and beautiful when the weather is good, it can suddenly turn wrathful with snow-storms and winds. It requires a lot of courage, will power and stamina not just to climb to the summit of Everest, but even just to reach its base camp.
